Biofeedback Nerve and Muscle Stimulator — Dual-Channel EMG Biofeedback + N

SKU Physio - 0101

The KM531 Biofeedback Nerve and Muscle Stimulator is a versatile, clinic-grade electrotherapy rehabilitation device that combines dual-channel surface electromyography (sEMG) biofeedback with dual-channel neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) in a single, compact unit. Designed for use in physiotherapy clinics, rehabilitation centres, urogynecology departments, and for supervised home therapy, the KM531 addresses two major clinical applications simultaneously: pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and urinary incontinence, and neuromuscular rehabilitation for stroke, paresis, and muscle re-education.

Four independent therapy modules — EMG Therapy, EMG Game, ETS (EMG-Triggered Stimulation), and STIM — provide a complete, structured rehabilitation protocol that can be progressively advanced from pure assessment, through biofeedback training, to active game-based muscle strengthening and passive electrical stimulation.

Dual-Indication Design: Pelvic Floor & Neuromuscular Rehabilitation

The KM531 is engineered to serve two clinically distinct but mechanically related therapeutic needs within a single device:

Pelvic Floor Muscle Rehabilitation — Using compatible vaginal probes and rectal probes, the KM531 delivers internal biofeedback and electrical stimulation for the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, stress urinary incontinence, urge urinary incontinence, and mixed urinary incontinence. The EMG signal from the pelvic floor muscles is acquired, displayed, and used as the basis for biofeedback training, EMG game training, ETS therapy, and pre-set NMES stimulation programmes.

Neuromuscular & Body Muscle Rehabilitation — Using standard electrode patches on external body sites, the KM531 provides sEMG biofeedback and electrical stimulation for stroke muscle re-education, relief of muscle spasms, prevention of disuse atrophy, improvement of local circulation, and maintenance or restoration of range of motion. Six dedicated body stimulation programmes complement the 22 pelvic floor programmes, making the KM531 equally applicable to general physiotherapy and neurological rehabilitation caseloads.

4 Therapy Modes — Complete Rehabilitation Protocol Coverage

EMG Therapy (Assessment & Biofeedback)

The EMG Therapy mode uses the acquired sEMG signal to evaluate muscle activation patterns, help patients become aware of and consciously control the target muscles, and guide training in:

  • Timing and onset of muscle activation
  • Coordination between muscle groups (e.g., pelvic floor and abdominal co-activation)
  • Force production awareness — using visual biofeedback to guide appropriate contraction intensity
  • Relaxation training — learning to fully release muscle tension between contractions
  • Muscle re-education for any muscle group accessible by surface electrodes

A standard 5-minute EMG test protocol is available for pelvic floor muscle strength assessment. Regular weekly testing is recommended to track changes in muscle strength and rehabilitation progress objectively.

EMG Game (Interactive Muscle Training)

The KM531's EMG Game mode converts muscle contractions into game controls — the patient uses voluntary muscle effort to interact with six distinct in-device game scenarios. Each game is designed to train a specific aspect of muscle performance:

  • Explosiveness — rapid, forceful contractions from rest
  • Speed — fast-twitch muscle activation and contraction speed
  • Sustainability — sustained submaximal contractions for endurance building

Six game training variations provide variety and progressive challenge across the rehabilitation programme. Game-based training significantly improves patient engagement, motivation, and compliance — particularly for programmes requiring daily home training over extended periods. The gamification of repetitive muscle exercises converts passive, low-motivation training into an active, rewarding experience.

ETS Mode (EMG-Triggered Stimulation)

ETS is the KM531's primary mode for stroke rehabilitation, paresis treatment, and neuromuscular re-education. The device continuously monitors the EMG signal and delivers electrical stimulation pulses on both stimulation channels when the patient's voluntary contraction exceeds the threshold — pairing motor intention with peripheral stimulation in real time.

Clinical applications for ETS mode include:

  • Stroke rehabilitation — muscle re-education via intention-triggered peripheral activation
  • Relaxation of muscle spasms — normalising hypertonicity through repetitive electrically-evoked movement cycles
  • Prevention or retardation of disuse atrophy — electrically-evoked contractions maintain muscle bulk and fibre integrity during reduced voluntary use
  • Increasing local blood circulation — improved circulatory perfusion via muscle pump action
  • Maintaining or increasing range of motion — passive ROM maintenance through electrically-driven movement
  • Muscle re-education — rebuilding correct neuromuscular activation patterns through high-volume intention-matched practice

STIM Mode (Electrical Stimulation — 22 Pelvic + 6 Body + 3 Custom Programs)

Pure electrical stimulation without EMG triggering. The KM531 provides:

  • 22 pelvic floor stimulation pre-set programmes — covering stress incontinence, urge incontinence, mixed incontinence, and general pelvic floor strengthening with a range of frequency, pulse width, and intensity combinations validated for pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation
  • 6 body stimulation programmes — for general physiotherapy applications including muscle strengthening, pain relief, and neuromuscular rehabilitation at non-pelvic sites
  • 3 custom programmes — fully configurable stimulation protocols that clinicians can set and save for individual patient needs, with parameter adjustment across frequency (2-100Hz) and 90 levels of intensity regulation
  • Frequency range: 2-100Hz across all programmes
