Physioled Sonora Combi Ultrasound and Electrotherapy Combination Unit

SKU SONORA-COMBI

The Sonora Combi extends the standard Sonora with automatic tuning supporting both 1 MHz and 3 MHz transducers, combined with the full Electra electrotherapy current range. The simultaneous or sequential delivery of ultrasound and electrotherapy enables synergistic combination protocols — using ultrasound to enhance tissue permeability and reduce impedance while electrotherapy delivers its analgesic or motor stimulating current to the prepared tissue.

Key Features—

1–3 MHz Frequency Range with Automatic Tuning Sonora's automatic transducer tuning eliminates manual frequency calibration and accessory configuration errors. The unit automatically recognizes the connected handpiece and applies the correct frequency parameters — a critical safety and consistency feature in busy clinical environments where multiple transducers may be in use throughout the day.

The clinical significance of the dual-frequency capability is fundamental: 1 MHz ultrasound penetrates to approximately 3–5 cm depth, making it the preferred frequency for deep muscle, joint capsule, and periosteal tissue treatment. 3 MHz ultrasound penetrates to approximately 1–2 cm depth, making it the preferred frequency for superficial soft tissue — tendons, ligaments, fasciae, and subcutaneous structures. Sonora Combi and the automatic tuning multi-frequency system give clinicians access to both frequencies from a single unit, covering the complete depth range of clinical ultrasound application.

Continuous and Pulsed Delivery Modes Continuous ultrasound delivers constant acoustic energy throughout the treatment — producing thermal effects (gentle heating of deep tissue, endogenous hyperemia, increased tissue extensibility) alongside non-thermal mechanical and biological effects. Pulsed ultrasound delivers intermittent acoustic energy bursts — significantly reducing the thermal component while preserving the non-thermal mechanical effects (cavitation, micro-streaming, membrane permeability). Pulsed mode is specifically indicated for acute inflammatory conditions where thermal effects are contraindicated or undesired, and for phonophoresis protocols where thermal intensification of drug absorption must be carefully controlled.

Programmable Intensity and Treatment Duration Continuous intensity adjustment up to 3.0 W/cm² and fully programmable treatment duration give clinicians complete dosimetric control — enabling precise implementation of evidence-based ultrasound protocols based on tissue depth, pathology stage, and treatment indication. This programmability is essential for differentiated clinical practice and for setting correct dosimetry in phonophoresis protocols where intensity directly influences drug delivery rates.

Phonophoresis — Ultrasound Drug Delivery Sonora's continuous galvanic direct current (in Sonora Combi) combined with ultrasound-driven cavitation and micro-streaming makes it an effective phonophoresis platform — enhancing the transdermal penetration of topically applied anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs, corticosteroids) and analgesics into deeper tissue layers. This capability positions Sonora Combi as both an ultrasound therapy unit and a drug delivery enhancement system for clinicians using topical pharmacotherapy alongside physical treatment.

Waterproof Transducer Handpieces All Sonora transducer handpieces are fully waterproof and sealed for underwater use — enabling ultrasound treatment delivered through a water medium (water bath or contact gel pool) for irregular body surfaces (hands, feet, ankles) where direct contact application is difficult or painful. Water-medium ultrasound is the preferred technique for acute conditions of the distal extremities where gel contact would cause discomfort.

Wide Range of Preset Protocols + Custom Programs Sonora's protocol library covers the most common clinical ultrasound applications with preset frequency, intensity, pulse ratio, and duration parameters — enabling consistent, reproducible treatment delivery across sessions and across different clinical staff. Full custom program capability allows experienced practitioners to build and save optimised protocols for specific patient populations or treatment protocols.

Automatic Accessory Recognition The Sonora automatically recognizes the connected transducer handpiece — preventing accidental application of incorrect parameters (e.g., 3 MHz settings with a 1 MHz handpiece) and eliminating the need for manual accessory type selection at the beginning of each session.
