Dynamic Tape PowerBand — Max Strength Biomechanical Tape
Dynamic Tape PowerBand is the highest-resistance product in the Dynamic Tape Biomechanical Tape range — a pre-laminated, dual-layer tape that provides resistance and recoil equivalent to a double layer of Dynamic Tape Original. Where the standard Black or Beige Tattoo generates strong resistance sufficient for most musculotendinous applications, the PowerBand goes significantly further: delivering 12-15kg of resistance and recoil with enhanced energy storage and release capacity that makes it the tape of choice for the highest-load clinical applications — Achilles tendon pathology, plantar fasciitis, ligamentous support, and any application where the forces involved exceed what a single layer of standard tape can manage.
The PowerBand is available as a single, pre-laminated tape roll — providing the convenience of a ready-to-use double-layer tape without requiring the clinician to laminate two strips of original tape together in the clinic. It can also be created manually by pressing two strips of Dynamic Tape Original together with their adhesive surfaces combined, though the pre-laminated roll is more consistent and easier to apply correctly.
How PowerBand Achieves 12-15kg Resistance
The standard Dynamic Tape Original generates strong resistance through its viscoelastic bungee cord mechanism — typically in the range of 5-8kg across range depending on the width and degree of stretch. By laminating two layers together, the PowerBand doubles the material cross-section generating force, approximately doubling the resistance output. The result is 12-15kg of resistance throughout the full range of motion — a genuinely significant mechanical force that creates a meaningful deceleration and load absorption capability for high-demand tissues.
The enhanced energy storage and release capacity of the dual-layer construction also amplifies the recoil phase — the force available to assist the return motion is proportionally increased, providing more meaningful muscular assistance during activities that load the Achilles, plantar fascia, or ligament structures repetitively.
Primary Clinical Applications
- Achilles Tendinopathy — The PowerBand's high resistance and recoil is specifically well-suited to Achilles tendon taping, where the forces involved during walking, running, and sport are high and a standard tape layer may not generate sufficient unloading effect. The PowerBand absorbs the eccentric load on the Achilles during heel contact and reinjection during push-off, reducing the repetitive mechanical stress on the tendon throughout activity.
- Plantar Fasciitis — High-load taping of the plantar fascia during weight-bearing activities requires resistance forces beyond what standard tape can generate. The PowerBand provides the necessary force to genuinely assist with plantar fascial load management during ambulation, running, and sport — addressing the biomechanical contributors to plantar fascial pain beyond what standard low-dye or standard biomechanical taping can achieve.
- Ligamentous Applications — For large ligamentous structures such as the lateral ankle ligament complex, knee collateral ligaments, and patellar tendon support, the PowerBand's high resistance provides meaningful mechanical assistance that single-layer tape cannot match.
- High-Load Sport Tape — Professional athletes performing at high intensities with high tissue loading requirements — distance runners, jumpers, court sports athletes, rugby players — who have found standard tape insufficient for symptom management during performance may benefit from the PowerBand's higher force output.
- Post-Injury Return to Sport — During the return-to-sport phase following musculotendinous or ligamentous injury, when the athlete is resuming high-load activity but the tissue is not yet fully recovered, the PowerBand provides maximum tape-based protection during performance.
PowerBand vs Creating a Double Layer From Original
The PowerBand can be approximated by pressing two strips of Dynamic Tape Original together with their adhesive surfaces combined into a double-layer strip before application. However, the pre-laminated PowerBand roll is more consistent, easier to cut and handle, and provides more even resistance distribution across the tape width — making it the preferred choice for clinical use when maximum-strength applications are planned regularly. For occasional high-load applications, a double-layered original tape is a practical clinical alternative.
