- Static Baropodometry — Plantar Pressure & Foot Morphology Static baropodometric acquisition captures the patient's plantar pressure distribution in standing — measuring support surfaces, load distribution between feet, podalic axes and angles, foot length and width, arch index, and plantar morphological parameters. The software generates automatic reports based on normal values arising from scientific studies, supporting all types of professional with clear and concise data and easy to interpret reports. Static analysis is the foundation of podiatric assessment for flat foot, high arch, hallux valgus, metatarsalgia, and pressure-related pathologies.
- Dynamic Baropodometry — Gait Line & Walking Analysis Dynamic baropodometric acquisition captures plantar pressure distribution throughout the walking cycle — tracking the gait line (progression of the centre of pressure from heel strike to toe-off), rocker analysis (heel, ankle, and forefoot rockers), step-by-step symmetry evaluation, and space-time parameters including speed, step length, and cadence. freeStep has the ability to acquire over 400 frames per second to obtain a detailed analysis of the gait line and the oscillations of the body centre of gravity. The 400fps acquisition rate — significantly higher than standard 100–200fps systems — captures rapid gait events that lower-frequency systems miss, enabling genuinely precise dynamic analysis particularly at running speeds.
- Stabilometry — Balance & Centre of Pressure Analysis In the stabilometry section it is possible to analyse the patient's oscillations by evaluating the movements of the CoP and analysing the characteristic parameters of stabilometry such as the confidence ellipse, the length of the CoP, and the Fourier analysis. Stabilometric assessment provides objective, reproducible quantification of postural control and balance — essential for fall risk assessment in elderly patients, neurological rehabilitation monitoring, sports performance balance assessment, and pre/post-treatment orthotic effectiveness evaluation. Standard stabilometric protocols including Romberg's test (eyes open/eyes closed), cervical interference testing, and single-leg stance evaluation are supported.
- Posturography — Full Body Postural Assessment freeStep performs static and dynamic baropodometry, motion analysis, morphological video analysis, digital podography, Romberg's test, cervical interference study, statistical analysis, and automatic reports. Posturographic assessment integrates stabilometric data with additional postural parameters to deliver a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's global postural alignment, postural pathology patterns, and response to clinical interventions — supporting orthopaedic, neurological, and sports medicine assessment protocols.
- Goniometry — Range of Motion Assessment Integrated digital goniometry within freeStep enables objective, reproducible joint range of motion measurement — storing ROM values alongside the patient's baropodometric and stabilometric data for comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment. ROM data is integrated into the global report, enabling clinicians to correlate plantar pressure patterns with joint mobility restrictions.
- Motion Analysis & Biomechanics Advanced motion analysis capabilities — compatible with Sensor Medica's optoelectronic and inertial measurement systems — enable 3D kinematic and kinetic analysis of human movement beyond the sagittal plane data captured by baropodometric platforms alone. Full lower limb joint angle, velocity, and acceleration data can be integrated with plantar pressure data for comprehensive biomechanical assessment of walking, running, and sports-specific movements.
- Video Synchronization & Morphological Video Analysis Video of the patient performing the dynamic analysis synchronized with the graphical display of the steps on the platform enables the clinician to visually correlate the patient's movement pattern with the quantitative pressure and gait data — a critical capability for patient communication, clinical report quality, and complex gait deviation analysis where the data and the video must be interpreted together. Morphological video analysis provides standardised video capture from anterior, posterior, and lateral views.
- CAD-CAM Orthotic Design Export — Integration with easyCAD™ After analysing the patient, it is possible to extract the results for further processing as part of personalised treatment, such as importing the results into software for the 3D design of plantar orthoses. Direct data export from freeStep to Sensor Medica's easyCAD™ software enables the patient's plantar pressure map, foot morphology data, and postural parameters to be directly imported as the foundation for custom orthotic design — creating a seamless clinical-to-production workflow from assessment through to CNC-milled orthotic fabrication via the Sensor Medica Vulcan CNC system.
