Motorised Active & Passive Pedal Exerciser for Upper & Lower Body Rehabilitation
The Spirit ANP Trainer Plus (PT33000) is a motorised active and passive (ANP) pedal exerciser engineered for upper and lower body rehabilitation, cardiovascular conditioning, and therapeutic exercise across a wide range of clinical and home settings. Developed by Spirit Fitness — the rehabilitation and fitness equipment division of Taiwan's Teamchang International — the ANP Trainer Plus combines two distinct, clinically relevant therapeutic functions in a single compact unit: an active resistance exerciser with 10 progressive resistance levels for patients with sufficient voluntary strength, and a passive motorised exerciser with a 0-60 RPM range for patients who require motor-driven limb movement due to weakness, paralysis, or early-stage rehabilitation status.
Active Mode vs Passive Mode — Two Therapeutic Functions in One Device
Active Mode — The patient pedals voluntarily against motor-independent magnetic resistance, with 10 selectable resistance levels providing a progressive challenge matched to their current strength and cardiovascular fitness. Active mode is appropriate for patients with sufficient voluntary motor strength to generate sustained lower or upper limb pedalling.
Passive Mode — The device's integrated motor drives the pedals at a clinician-selected speed from 0 to 60 RPM, moving the patient's limbs through the full pedalling range of motion without requiring any voluntary muscle effort. Passive mode is indicated for patients who cannot generate voluntary pedalling movement.
Active Mode: 10 Resistance Levels for Progressive Strengthening
This 10-level range enables:
Individualised Prescription — The clinician selects the resistance level that matches the patient's current voluntary motor capacity, ensuring the session is therapeutically loaded — not so easy as to produce no strengthening stimulus, not so hard as to produce fatigue-driven compensation patterns or injury risk.
Objective Progressive Overload — As the patient's strength and endurance improve, resistance is advanced level by level — providing the progressive overload stimulus required for measurable strength gains. The 10-level granularity ensures small, manageable progression steps that avoid performance plateaux without demanding excessive jumps in workload.
Consistent Documentation — The numbered resistance scale provides an objective, reproducible parameter for session documentation and outcome tracking — enabling therapists to record starting resistance, session resistance, and resistance progression across the rehabilitation programme with clarity.
Passive Mode: 0-60 RPM Motor Drive for Zero-Effort Rehabilitation
The passive motor drive delivers a continuously adjustable movement speed from 0 to 60 RPM —
At low RPM settings (0-20 RPM), passive mode provides slow, gentle joint mobilisation — maintaining ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow, and shoulder range of motion without any active muscle demand.
At higher RPM settings (30-60 RPM), passive mode delivers meaningful cardiovascular stimulation through rhythmic lower limb movement.
Bi-Directional Movement — Forward & Reverse for Complete Muscle Engagement
Both active and passive modes support bi-directional pedal movement — forward and reverse — providing access to different muscle groups through each direction:
Forward pedalling engages the anterior kinetic chain — quadriceps, hip flexors, and tibialis anterior — in lower body applications; and shoulder flexors, biceps, and wrist flexors in upper body applications.
Reverse pedalling shifts emphasis to the posterior kinetic chain — hamstrings, gluteus maximus, and calf muscles for lower body; and shoulder extensors, triceps, and wrist extensors for upper body.
