Cold Compression Wrap — Gel Pack Ice Wrap with Manual Compression
The DR. CRYO Cold Compression Wrap is the simplest and most cost-effective way to apply the proven RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) therapy protocol to any soft tissue injury, sprain, strain, or post-surgical recovery area. Combining a reusable high-performance cold gel pack, a manual compression air pump, and an anatomically designed support wrap in a single, portable, electricity-free package, the DR. CRYO wrap delivers clinically effective cold and compression therapy anywhere — at home, at work, on the sideline, or while travelling — with no machine, no ice, and no special skills required.
The RICE Method — Why Cold + Compression Together
The RICE method — Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation — is the most widely recommended first-line treatment for acute soft tissue injuries, recommended by sports medicine professionals, physiotherapists, and orthopaedic surgeons worldwide. The combination of cold and compression in a single application is more effective than either modality alone:
Cold therapy reduces local tissue temperature, causing vasoconstriction that limits haemorrhage and oedema formation. It slows nerve conduction velocity, reducing pain signal intensity. It decreases metabolic activity in traumatised tissue, limiting the secondary hypoxic injury that occurs in the hours following initial trauma. The result is faster pain relief, less swelling, and a shorter overall recovery timeline.
Compression mechanically limits the volume of oedema that can accumulate by applying external pressure to the soft tissue compartment. It supports venous and lymphatic return of fluid away from the injury site, and reinforces the vasoconstriction produced by cold therapy. Applied simultaneously with cold, compression produces superior oedema reduction outcomes compared to cold alone.
Each DR. CRYO Cold Compression Wrap includes three integrated components:
1. Anatomical Support Wrap — The outer support structure is anatomically contoured to the target body part, with adjustable straps that secure the wrap firmly in position during treatment. The anatomical design ensures full surface contact between the gel pack and the treatment area, maximising cold delivery across the entire injury site — unlike generic ice bags that create cold spots and contact gaps.
2. Removable Cold Gel Pack — A high-performance, non-toxic cold gel pack that slides into the wrap's designated pocket directly against the treatment area. The gel pack is frozen before use (standard freezer, typically 2-4 hours) and provides extended cold duration through a specialised insulation layer that retards heat ingress and maintains effective cold for longer than standard gel packs. The gel pack is removable and reusable — freeze, use, refreeze.
3. Manual Compression Air Pump — A hand-held bulb pump that inflates the compression chamber of the wrap to the user's desired pressure level by simply squeezing the bulb. The user controls exactly how much compression is applied — squeezing more for firmer compression, less for gentle support — making it adaptable to individual tolerance and clinical need throughout the treatment session. Compression is released by opening the release valve on the pump.
Manual Air Pump — Precise, User-Controlled Compression
The manual bulb pump gives the user complete, immediate control over compression level throughout the treatment session. Unlike battery-operated or motorised compression devices, the manual pump:
- Requires no electricity or batteries — fully portable anywhere
- Allows instant pressure adjustment at any point — more pumps for more compression, release valve for less
- Produces no noise or vibration during treatment
- Never loses pressure mid-session due to battery depletion or power interruption
- Has no motor, electronics, or components that can malfunction or require maintenance
High-Performance Gel Pack — Stays Colder Longer
The DR. CRYO gel pack uses a high-performance non-toxic gel formulation combined with a specialised insulation layer that significantly reduces the rate of heat transfer from the patient's skin into the gel pack. This keeps the pack colder for longer during treatment — providing sustained cold therapy throughout a 15-20 minute session without the rapid temperature rise that affects standard thin gel packs.
The gel pack is designed to remain pliable when frozen, conforming to the contours of the body part for full surface contact rather than creating air gaps between the pack and skin. Non-toxic formulation ensures safe skin contact in the event of minor wrap wear or minor seal compromise.
